In high school and college Ben had two plans for a potential career, and neither included his band, the Lemonheads. Never considering music a full-time job, he left the band he founded with friend Evan Dando to pursue a degree in Literature from Harvard and eventually a career as an advertising copywriter. In our conversation with Ben, we discuss the decision to work in advertising versus teaching, his love of silly jingles and old man candy, the role that music played (and still plays) in his life and the dark place where creativity comes from.
